Mary's Place

A web page about the life of a lady who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Location: Piedmont, Oklahoma, United States

I live in Piedmont, OK, with my Husband of 50 years who has been very supportive. We have 2 sons,David and Kenny, 6 grandkids, and 6 great grandkids. I enjoy feeding and watching the birds and squirrels. Before I was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I ran a Licensed Day Care Home for Infants for 15 years. I noticed I wasn't able to remember important things and having problems with my speech. I was experiencing severe headaches. I would get lost. I didn't know how to use the computer. At the age of 55, I told my doctor. I was sent for an MRI. which showed a large amount of shrinkage. I went to a neurologist who sent me for two days of testing. I was diagnosed with dementia of the Alzheimer's type. My husband and I were both in shock. I had to give up my job. I went to see a social worker. I've taken Aricept for 11 years. I can now use the computer and even do this web page. I also host a chat room for dementia patients. This is a very lonely disease. I don't want anyone to feel as lonely as I did when I was diagnosed (I thought I was the only one over 50 that had Alzheimer's). In 2006 I started taking Namenda. Also I was told I have a mixed dementia, Alzheimer's/Vascular.

Happy Birthday George!!! George is my brother in Louisville, Kentucky… Happy Birthday Morris!!! Morris is our friend in Arizona… We are still very cold here. We didn’t get out of the teens today… I did laundry, chatted with friends, and fixed supper… I called George… The nurse and nurse’s aide called to check on us… It is getting harder and harder for me to blog. I am going to take a break for a while… I will be back… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

Thank you Gayle for leaving a comment here on my blog… I didn’t post a blog yesterday because I spent the most of the day in bed trying to keep warm. I will probably do the same today… I got out of bed to fix lunch and go to chat… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I was woke up early this morning with a phone call from the terminate inspector. He came to do our annually termite inspection… I did laundry, fixed lunch, and went to chat. It was good having Lynne back in chat today… We are expecting ice and 11 inches of snow and winds up to 50 mph tonight and tomorrow. I am not looking forward to that. Our neighbors, Billie and Sean called to see if we needed anything from the grocery store. It sure is nice having neighbors who check on us… Brenda, the nurse’s aide came to visit me and she changed the sheets on our bed and put the flannel sheets back on… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

You won’t hear me bragging about our weather today… Church this morning and then watched “Doctor Zhivago” again.., I did laundry, went to chat, and later we went to Kenny and Kathy’s for a pot roast supper. It was yummy. Thanks Kathy for a great meal… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma

I didn’t sleep well last night and I am blaming it on the steroid shot I got yesterday. It seems to do that to me. But the foot is feeling better… We are at 74 degrees today. I wish it would be like this all the time. We are to get a winter storm next week with ice and snow… I ran the dust mop, fixed lunch, and chatted with my online friends… Dave went with Kenny and Kathy to a gun show today… We are going to Kenny and Kathy’s later so the guys can shoot their guns and I will visit with Kathy and then we will go for ice cream in Guthrie… Goodnight All… Keeping The Faith In Oklahoma
